About Us

If you wanted to find Cathy when she was a young girl — as her mother often did around dinner time — you wouldn’t look in the usual places. You would have to look up, way, way up to the treetops. There Cathy would perch for hours, snacking on sandwiches brought up by bucket. She appreciated the view up there, gaining as a child the kind of perspective one only can among the ancient, the arboreal.

These days Cathy is usually the one looking up — along with her husband Bruce Barchus — through their cameras. The resulting photography and art asks us to take a different view of the world, to slow down enough to notice the beauty all around us. Cathy’s distinctive technique reveals the soul-felt, but otherwise unseen energy in nature. Her vision is to help us love nature, share nature, and preserve nature.

Cathy and Bruce launched Social Good Goods to showcase Cathy’s art while helping to support our natural world. Like a forest’s interwoven root system, we are all connected. Aware of this reality, SGG is committed to doing good with its goods by printing all our products in the USA—using recycled and sustainable materials when available—and giving 2% of every sale to nature conservancies.
